Leather and polyurethane men’s shoes by Joseph Bascetta and Carole Reidford for Pelican Footwear, 1971-1974

Husband-and-wife team Joseph Bascetta and Carole Reidford designed, made, and sold Pelican Shoes from their Manhattan loft. As part of the 1970s club scene, the designers were known for their sky-high platforms, extravagant design, and use of lots of glitter. This shoe was intended for a man, showing that sparkle has no gender.

High heel, high platform mule. Sides of platform are painted black with red "flames" and gold glitter. Upper is red metallic leather with black trim.
