Haft Theater<br \/>\nMarvin Feldman Center, Second Floor<\/p>\n<p>The Museum at FIT presented its eighteenth academic symposium, Fashion, Science, and Exploration. This daylong event explored the impact of scientific thought on fashion in conjunction with two current MFIT exhibitions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitnyc.edu\/museum\/exhibitions\/expedition.php\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Expedition: Fashion from the Extreme<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitnyc.edu\/museum\/exhibitions\/force-of-nature.php\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Force of Nature<\/em><\/a>. Speakers delved into the influence of thinkers such as Charles Darwin, the history of exploration, the social implications of fur, and how environmental concerns are manifested in fashion and the visual arts.<\/p>\n<p>Cover: Photograph by John Cowan, 1964. Pomerantz Art and Design Center<\/p>\n<p>The Museum at FIT hosted a screening of the 1995 documentary film <em>Unzipped<\/em>, directed by Douglas Keeve. <em>Unzipped<\/em> presented a behind-the-scenes look at acclaimed designer Isaac Mizrahi, whose work is featured in our current exhibition, <em>Expedition: Fashion from the Extreme<\/em>. Pomerantz Art and Design Center<\/p>\n<p>Maria Cornejo joined MFIT Deputy Director Patricia Mears for a presentation of the new book <em>Maria Cornejo: Zero<\/em>, an intimate look at Cornejo\u2019s design processes and inspirations. Archival images of Tilda Swinton, Cindy Sherman, and First Lady Michelle Obama, as well as new pictures by fashion photographer Mark Borthwick, capture the femininity and artful minimalism of her designs.
