Student Bios Credits Process

This online exhibition is the result of a process that began in January 2020. Initially, we were developing potential topics for a physical exhibition. That spring, the world came to a halt due to COVID-19, just as our ideas were taking shape. From across our laptop screens, we learned that classes would remain online for the foreseeable future and that our exhibition would change from a physical show to a virtual one. As dress and textile scholars, the thought of not being able to physically see and work with the garments that inspired our curatorial narrative was difficult to grasp. However, we began to imagine all the possibilities that a virtual platform could offer visitors, near and far. Below are a few photos that capture our process of researching, organizing and mounting the exhibition and communicating with one another. Events that unfolded during this period, such as the Women’s March and Black Lives Matter protests, are included, as they share a striking similarity with many of the social upheavals of the 1920s and 1960s that we highlight in the exhibition.
