Lamé evening set by Stephen Burrows, 1977
Stephen Burrows designed clothing “to make entrances in at dances and parties.” In the 1970s, his garments were staples at iconic nightclubs like Studio 54. In this ensemble, synthetic gold lamé is draped sensuously around the body to create the effect of “liquid metal,” commanding attention on any dancefloor.

A look composed of black suede, red silk chiffon, gold lamé, and feather boas demonstrates Stephen Burrows’ design versatility and use of color blocking. However, the gold pants are the “showstopper,” and their easy drape on the model shows that they’re made to move.
