“Discover America” Fashion Show February 29, 1968
Eleanor Lambert produced the first fashion show at the White House on February 29, 1968. Entitled “Discover America,” it celebrated the American fashion industry by showcasing the work of approximately 50 designers. Frankie Welch created hand-painted promotional scarves that were given to the guests and later produced for the public.
